Simon Montalvo (they/them) is a non-binary/transgender movement artist, researcher, and collector of stories born on the land of the Coahuiltecan and Karankawan peoples. They’re currently living on the land of the Massachusett and Pawtucket peoples, and are grateful for the generosity of the land that holds them.

They most recently received the Next Steps for Boston Dance Artists grant through The Boston Foundation in 2024, are a BIPOC Mentee with Midday Movement series for the 24/25 season, and are a company member of Jo-Mé Dance Theatre.

Simon holds a BFA in Contemporary Dance Performance from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and is largely focused on experimental improvisation, dance theater, radical community care, and moving in forms that make us feel things.

“Simon’s work is both thoughtful and playful. I enjoyed working with Simon thoroughly. The artistic process was always pleasant, and fostered a truly safe environment.”

Haley Andrews, dancer/collaborator

“Simon is a powerful and honest artist who always shows up to rehearsals with warmth, curiosity, authenticity, good natured humor, technical skill, and strong creative insights. In a creative process they are incredibly present and interested in working collaboratively, and they make other dancers feel comfortable and supported. When performing they are a powerhouse, melding strong technique with physical abandon and bringing such a beautiful mixture of emotional vulnerability, confidence, and joy in taking up the space they deserve.”
